On the Road Again...

Friday morning...we pack up our "Agatha Cottage" and head south to Monterey and Carmel-by-the-sea. Kim is behind the wine, I mean wheel, Timmy is navigating and Kelly and I are commenting on the natives. Traffic is a nightmare in Oakland, and the 101, and pretty much everywhere (Melissa's note: this whole state is in traffic gridlock at all times).

Traffic turns our estimated 2.5 hour drive into a 4 hour adventure. We miss our original appointment at Calera winery in Hollister, and reroute to Monterey, where we find (a) our hotel room and (b) the AT&T classic at Pebble Beach (Equals inflated room rates). We grab a chilled bottle of Robert Sinskey Rose, our flip flops, and head to Carmel-by-the-sea beach for sunset. Mel dips her toes in Pacific for the first time ever.
After the sun drops, we pack up and head to Kel's old stopping grounds, the Cheese Shop, for some wine, cheese and local flavor. We hook up with Mike for home-made fondue and do some exciting barrels tastings in the basement under his house.

Off to the hotel for bedtime, where 3 pasty white dudes where hogging the hot tub and we declined entry.

Mel and Kel taking a break from tasting and touring.
